As far as the selections...if it went SOLELY by submissions...there might always be a CD...sometimes not enough good submissions are received...
...but I can say this...in 2010...Joe was not the SOLE voice behind the selections...we met on many occasions and batted around bands, submissions...listened to tracks...haggled over bands we felt had good steam to be on the cd...was not a simple "1-12" choice of bands...there was NO ONE on the CD that either Joe or I said HAS to be on the CD. We BOTH had to give the OK and both asked input from outside sources who we felt had the know how to offer input...
...it's alot more than just getting someone's friends on the CD...
...Joe played me tracks he'd gotten...Unmentionables...Crown...Kolbeck (yeah I know now that there's some other history to song)...and those tracks blew me away...and Joe...
...and like I said...Joe mentioned G-City being on the CD...I would only do it IF I felt we wouldn't be taking away a slot from a much better fitting track...
...if the process perfect? No...if we were shooting only for perfect...there would not be a 12 Bands CD or concert ever again...
...we did it together...with mutual respect for each other and with open ears...open minds...and it was cool...Joe Stevenson has a great feel for what will work...and with his years of experience in music...I can see why...
...at the end of the day...Joe has to make sure that the CD and the event not only raises money...but doesn't lose money...it's a big task on his head...if 12 Bands tanks...it not only effects the charity...but him as well...with that in mind...he has to do what he feels in his heart will get the best result...despite how others feel about it...whether a band gets on it or not...they're not effected financially if the CD and/or concert fails...
...I feel blessed to have been on some 12 Bands CDs. Some peeps here in Augusta can tell you...I have never felt myself as a writer/performer am up to par with most artists in this town or anywhere else. I consider myself to be just a guy who loves to write his stuff and play out on occasion. But a musician? Not hardly...
