Its a funny thing to me about the 12 bands...it doesn't matter what I submit, I never get accepted. And it has everything to do with who I have played with (musical politics) and nothing to do with my own merit...but this is Augusta, Georgia so I should expect that right? The funniest part is I keep getting turned down, but the video I've taken from a previous year has been "appropriated" without my consent and put on the 12bands youtube site.
I did not submit anything this year and I will no longer be supportive of this venture.
Next year I'll have enough songs to release my own 12bands CD only I'll call it 12bands of rejected songs.
The song I submitted 3 years ago is being done by someone else this year. WTH? When I went on COL the other week I actually brought this particular song from a few years ago that is on THIS YEAR'S compilation, but re-recorded and done without me...hmmm....that stinks to high heaven right there...
I'm not cool enough yet I suppose...why should I care? I donate to numerous charities already, so someone PLEASE tell me why I should care? I'm starting to sound like Stak did 5 years ago.

As someone who has stood on both sides of the fence and experienced both acceptance and rejection, I understand your frustration Jeff...and while there may well have been some politics involved in the selection process in past years, I can assure you with confidence that there was much less of that this year. Ask Stoney...he was on the selection committee...
This might have been the year you SHOULD have submitted. Who knows.
Which track are you talking about btw?....I'm curious to look into that further.

Hey Jeff -
It's not about you.

Thanks for the vote of confidence...I can't say how different this years was from years past...because I wasn't involved with the others...I just know this - I have every 12 Bands CD and each one rocks...sure there I tracks I like better and tracks I like less but that's gonna happen...whether there could have been better choices or better people making the choices is irrelevant...12 Bands rocks and at the end of the day...it's about taking wonderful people and music and helping to heal...

This is the 3rd time I've been fortunate enough to be a part of 12 Bands (Pedestrian in 2004 and Solo in 2007), but I have also not had a submission selected on 4 occasions. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's a big combination of balancing bands, the songs that make the most sense together, willingness to promote + draw + buzz that year, etc.
I love your playing Jeff and I think you should keep at it. My .02.

First off let me state that what the 12bands does is far beyond reproach. It has really blossomed into a regional treat that fosters goodwill and charity...something that is sorely lacking in this day and age...AND I have credited Joe et. al. numerous times for the break away from Coco (I don't want to go into that here, possibly a later time.)
HOWEVER...
The selection process is anything but fair and equitable. That is not the problem...the problem is that the selection process is BILLED as fair and equitable when it is anything but. I'm not the only one who is "on the outside," I'm simply one of the ones with a big mouth and wrong opinion.
There is no frustration...I did not send an entry in this year.
And his band is also on the disc this year...conflict of interests? I'm just saying...I know you guys are straight shooters, but it is the little things such as this that point to larger issues and make people like me scratch their heads. Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin' --- if this song is on the disc with Kolbeck as the performer (and I may have bad info, but my source is trustworthy) then it REEKS of BS from where I sit. Listen for yourself Stak/Stoney...its one of the songs I brought with me to COL the other week. So if a re-make of that is on the 12bands disc this year...it really proves my point. Not only do women say this to me...but now grown men...LOL! Seriously though...I stated in my first post that it was not about me...but my musical associations. I'll be happy to call you Joe...and you can also call me if you like - (706) 910-9055...and I did not "accuse" anyone of anything. I know 12bands is your thing and you can have whoever you want on it. Sour Grapes and all that...but please don't portray the selection process as open to everyone when YOU KNOW that it is not.
I'm 0 for 4 myself. 2 for 6 if you count bands/other people...
I don't, because I know the deal going in.
/sarcasm on Thanks college /sarcasm off
Why thank you sir! That comment is worth at least a couple nickels to me! AND O/T...I'm digging the tunes you're putting out there...
Additional thoughts: My knee-jerk reaction to "never be involved or support" 12bands is not correct. Every time I have been involved (twice) and every show I have been to (4x) have been well-run and spot on. I'll be there this year also to check out the music and support a great cause.
Well...the new board needed some drama so here it is...
And I just noticed...we can link youtube stuff here also - tres cool
Alright - I'm outta time for now - more words later CHEMIKOOL's Wall-Of-Text hits you for 3000 damage points...

I couldn't be more of an "outsider" when compared to the rest of the folks on the bill. Just putting that out there... because I have certainly had my share of bitter comments from folks I know because we were selected this year. "Oh... well, it's just because you _________________."

Here's what I've come to understand about the selection process for 12 Bands....while submissions are accepted and encouraged, no one said anything about the selection process being "fair and equitable"...let's face it, it's not a level playing field....many factors play into the selection process....most of them aimed at maximum impact for the GOOD OF THE CHARITY.......because lets face it, this is all about trying to help kids with cancer...the more money the better....
That said, the submission process is your opportunity...if you submit a track that cannot be denied, it'll get on the record....i learned that with Lights On The Boulevard....because at that time, 48Volt were not enjoying "insider status"....
Those years we got denied repeatedly, i was irate because i was laboring under the false assumption that it was a wide open competition-straight up.....with everyone enjoying an equal shot at inclusion......
With regard to conflict of interest on Stoney's part.....Stoney's track would not have been included this year if it wasn't a good track and also fit the needs of the compilation as a whole...and that's a fact...did he have a leg up getting it on the record?......probably...
That's the part you all are going to have to learn to live with.......it's not a "fair and equitable" process......but nobody ever said it was....
And guess what...it doesn't HAVE to be.....
I understand that now and have found peace with that fact...and i'm a happier person for it....
I'll proudly continue to be involved in 12 BANDS OF CHRISTMAS as it continues its evolution into something much bigger than this little concert and cd(a great tradition to be sure)....i'll do so in whatever capacity i can help.........because my heart aches for those children and their parents...there should be NO other motivation.

First off...I didn't just get a blank open slot...I submitted my idea for what we wanted to do...with the understanding with Joe that if there was a better track...it would take the slot over ours...is it great? I don't think so but I think it came out pretty cool...and it's Christmasy...lol

I tried once a few years ago and didn't make the cut but I'm still enjoying my Outsider Status.

OJ, I was in one of the bands this past 12 Bands, and if anyone was an outsider looking in, it was me... a 53 yr. old guitarist/singer/part time defender of the universe. The whole reason I wanted to do it was simply for the comaraderie.... and the chicks.......No, seriously. I will probably not be back again, but it was a fine time ad I made a lot of new friends... (or at least on FACEBOOK) and I will enjoy the memory of that time... sharing it with my grandkids like some old war story....."Dear GAWD!!! There was BEER and SODA all over the floors by the time the evening was over...."
