Recently picked up the latest issue of Classic Rock magazine and the main story was "150 Greatest Debut Albums" and it has some pretty cool stuff...so I'm wondering... What debut albums do you think stand out? I dig that albums by The Clash, Cheap Trick, Ramones, and tons of others were included from all over the musical map.

Weezer- the blue album, seemed pretty important, also "Vegas" by the Chrystal Method. Is that not "rock" enough for you? Alright Stoney, "Speed Metal Symphony" by Cacophony...look it up if you are not in the know. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM17rAWKbIM

Seriously? Out of all the great debut albums in history...Pearl Jam tops your list? Wow...
What I found interesting in the mags listings was (just 150...no order number) that debut EPs were included yet they listed GNR's Appetite for Destruction as their debut...hmmm...their debut was the "Live Like a Suicide" EP which, while released on a label other than Geffen, was actually a created sub to create more interest...the release was actually funded by Geffen...

On personal/favorites list you have to take into account how a particular album affected you or your life. If we are speaking strictly on technical or more globally based critic terms it is a different story.
Each one of those albums has personal significance for me as well as being great albums.
Specifically regarding PJ's Ten, it did sell nearly 10 million in the US alone and from first track to last it stands up as easily one of the better records in the 1990's.

Understood...just thinking about the thousands of debut albums in the history of music that had incredible impact...of course is doesn't help that I'm not that big of a PJ fan...pardon me...that I'm not that big of a Vedder fan...dug the first videos when they only got play on Headbanger's Ball...but after hearing the same voice song after song on the actual CD...I lost interest...still don't think anyone has still come up with the right lyrics for "Yellow Ledbetter"...including Vedder himself and PJ...lol

I agree with NIN Pretty Hate Machine.
Obviously not a rock album but Wu-Tang Clan 36 Chambers changed the game when it came out.

Obviously not a rock album but Wu-Tang Clan 36 Chambers changed the game when it came out. I can definitely agree with that... and Method Man's solo debut Tical is near the top of my list for sure...
